WHAT IS THE 4WD?
The Hovercraft 4WD is the newest version of the Rverskate freestyle whitewater SUP built to cartwheel, shred, and run big vertical drops with control.
Unlike traditional boards, it uses a four-fin system to create grip, drive, and stability in every direction.
WHY 4WD WORKS
Inflatable boards don’t have hard edges.
So we built control somewhere else.
Into the fins.
Four contact points—nose and tail—give you grip, release, and control no matter which way you’re moving.
HOW IT RIDES
- Drive through rapids
- Snap into eddies
- Hold your line
- Ride fakie
- Recover fast
Forward. Backward. Sideways.
4WD responds instantly.
4WD features:
-
direction agnostic
fakie, regular, front surf, back surf: it all feels the same. the 4WD's symmetrical nose and tail fins create predictability when surfing and rotating.
-
tracking off drops
when launching off vertical drops, the nose fins prevent the board from sliding away.
-
precise edges
the twin tip setup of the 4WD gives you a much greater sense of awareness of the board's edges than traditional infalatable boards.
welcome to the flow lab
Riverskate was born from a "backyard" flow lab:
- 6+ years of R + D
- patent pending grab wings
- unbelievable stability whether standing, kneeling, rolling, or launching
- continuous testing of new designs, including:
- new fin shapes and outfitting for C-1
- a creative community of paddlers testing boards in their own flow labs around the world
The progression continues:
After our first production run of Hovercrafts was delivered with the fins "reversed" (our Fakie model), it unlocked a new experiment: a twin-tip version, the 4WD, was born.
As soon as we added a second pair of twin fins, we realized immediately how much these low-profile edge fins created the very thing inflatable sups have always lacked: true rails or hard edges.

When will my board ship?
Current lead time is approximately 4+ weeks. You’ll receive an update when your board is ready to ship.
How do I choose between a 120L and a 150L?
The 120L is being ridden by athletic paddlers up to about 175 pounds. The 150L is being paddled by riders up to about 225 pounds. We will have a riverskate built for larger paddlers this summer.
How is a riverskate different than a regular SUP?
Traditional SUPs are one-size-fits-all craft made to be, above all, stable on the water's surface. Riverskate was designed instead to use all both surface and underwater currents, an approach to performance born from decades of squirt and freestyle whitewater paddling as well as techniques borrowed from skate/surf/snow progressions but applied to the river.
